Batik

In class we did two different batiks. In each we used a similar method using a mixture of half toothpaste and half lotion. For the first we did a black t-shirt, we were to create a design on the t-shirt using the toothpaste/lotion mixture. I chose to do a tie-dye design and twisted the t-shirt into a spiral and applied rubber bands around it. After that I applied the toothpaste/lotion mixture in various spots on the t-shirt. I then had to set the shirt out to dry. Once the shirt dried we sprayed the shirts in bleach. after the bleach set for a little bit we washed the mixture and bleach off the shirt. Everywhere that was covered in the mixture stayed the same color of the t-shirt and everywhere left blank bleached to an orangish color. Below is my finished product.

The second method we used was with ink instead of bleach. We took a piece of blank cloth and created a design using the mixture. Once the mixture had dried we then applied different colors of ink. Once the ink dried we were able to wash off the extra ink and the mixture off. I think I used too much ink of my cloth because it is very hard to see the areas that were covered by the mixture. I think the t-shirt worked much better than the cloth. below is the finished product of the cloth.
